A Woman's Lament on Dueling

A Woman's Lament on Dueling

By Maradas Graham

Why is it, when duels are fought
It seems to me that duels are not
Fought for decent reasons or
Reasons I'd want duels fought for?
They're always fought for pride or shame
Or fought to honor my good name
When all I really want to see
If duelists shall hold duels for me
Are duels fought just to catch my eye
Fought to make me swoon or sigh
Or over hopeless love of me
Those are duels I'd like to see
But, instead I have no say
In who is dealing whom today
Or over what, wherefore, or why
It's something I'm insulted by?
And so it rather seems to be
These duels aren't really fought for me
So have your duels, and have you fun
Let me know when you are done
